WASHINGTON, DC – FWD.us President Todd Schulte issued the following statement today after Representatives Maria Elvira Salazar (R-FL) and Veronica Escobar (D-TX) led a bipartisan group of their colleagues in introducing the Dignity Act:
“We applaud Congresswomen Salazar and Escobar for leading this bipartisan group to heed the call of families across the country who understand the need for Congress to move past the toxic, enforcement-only anti-immigrant agenda blocking any progress to actually fix our nation’s immigration system.
“This legislation has critical components that would improve our immigration system, providing needed, transformative changes to millions of lives, including modernizing our legal immigration system and a process for undocumented immigrants to adjust their status. While other provisions must be improved or refined before passage, this effort should serve as a launching point to help restore common sense into the conversation and help Congress reengage constructively on this issue.
“We look forward to continue working with any policymaker willing to have a frank and open discussion about the facts, as we know it will lead to the inevitable conclusion that having a functioning and humane legal immigration system is not something to tolerate, but rather something we must embrace for the good of our country.”
