FWD.us Statement on One Year Extension for Deferred Enforced Departure (DED)

WASHINGTON, DC – FWD.us President Todd Schulte issued the following statement today after the White House extended deportation protections for DED holders through March 31, 2020, citing that the “overall situation in West Africa remains concerning”:

“Temporarily extending deportation protections for roughly 4,000 Liberian-Americans who have spent decades building their lives in the United States is good news and the right thing to do. We thank the Administration for listening to thousands across the country who advocated on behalf of DED holders, their families and their communities. The imminent threat facing DED holders – as well as Dreamers and TPS holders – is an entirely avoidable crisis. Of course, the true solution that will not only benefit these DED holders but our entire nation is for Congress to pass permanent protections for Dreamers, TPS holders and DED holders — and we urge them to do so swiftly.”
